Goodbye 2018 – Year in Words

It’s been a long year.

We experienced some of our best victories; broke social economic barriers and standards. And we experienced our worst defeats.

I think pretty unanimously we can say that the year was hell. We watched nations fall. We watched the ideal we held dear, burn. And we watched corruption and deceit grow more powerful than ever with distrust the ever willing destructive hurricane.

Hours spent on knees with hearts crying out; moments spent hiding in bathrooms fending off panic attacks so that we could go out and reface the world; a lot of time spent in righteous anger our fists to the sky, mantras on our lips; and a lot of time spent in despair, curled in on ourselves as every step we took was met with opposition that took us three steps backward. We fought with our hearts, our heads, our feet and when it need be our fists. A defiant shore against the mighty tide, but it always goes out.

We’re battle worn. We lost people in this year’s fight. We’re not sure ourselves if we can go on. Tired eyes lift toward the clock as it ticks on, the same beat as always, no matter how long or short it seems to spring. 5-4-3-2-1. 2019 is here. We hold our breath in anticipation and timidity. History doesn’t wait for us to be ready, it rushes at us and overwhelms, overcomes.

We’re learning how to live underwater.

Goodbye 2018. Burn in hell.

Hello, 2019. You’ve got another thing coming.
