Books

I want to read all the things in 2021… | Goodreads Reading Challenge

Only a day and a half into the new year, and I’m already salivating over all the books I want to read this year. My list of books is a little ambitious, but there’s an ever-growing list of excellent books on the market and I want to read them all. This year I’m looking to dive a little deeper into YA – I think I found a mini genre that I like last year; theology – now with a more specific bent; career things – such as new audio editing techniques and design strategies; as well as social justice and politics in general, with topics from disability to race to LGBT theory and issues.

Already I’m nose deep in The Love Interest, a YA/LGBT/Sci-Fi Novel with a fascinating spy premise; Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex and a handful of books that I didn’t finish last year. To prepare for the year, I have brief lists and spreadsheets all over every device and notebook in my life that document my desires and what topics I’m interested in exploring over the coming year. I’ve set my Goodreads goal to 52 books again this year, or a solid book a week, though I hope once again I far surpass that goal within a few months as I sink into new novels, textbooks and nonfiction surveys.

My Goodreads reading challenge is about the extent of my ‘new years resolutions’ this year, but my vague overarching goal for 2021 is progress and I hope the books I read this year help me achieve that progress even if it’s not as many steps forward as I may hope for in these moments.

Progress is progress is progress.
